D'oh! Thanks to a suggestion from Chris "Pudge" Nandor, it now does proper newline translation in the response from the server.

To install Net::Finger, copy and paste the appropriate command in to your terminal.

cpanm Net::Finger

perl -MCPAN -e shell
install Net::Finger
