Bencher::Scenario::PERLANCAR::method_call_using_variable - Benchmark calling a method with the name of the method in a variable

VERSION

This document describes version 0.06 of Bencher::Scenario::PERLANCAR::method_call_using_variable (from Perl distribution Bencher-Scenarios-PERLANCAR), released on 2017-01-25.

SYNOPSIS

To run benchmark with default option:

% bencher -m PERLANCAR::method_call_using_variable

For more options (dump scenario, list/include/exclude/add participants, list/include/exclude/add datasets, etc), see bencher or run bencher --help.

DESCRIPTION

BENCHMARK PARTICIPANTS

  • class, literal (perl_code)

    Code template:

    Foo->meth
  • class, variable (perl_code)

    Code template:

    state $meth = "meth"; Foo->$meth
  • object, literal (perl_code)

    Code template:

    state $obj = Foo->new; $obj->meth
  • object, variable (perl_code)

    Code template:

    state $obj = Foo->new; state $meth = "meth"; $obj->$meth

SAMPLE BENCHMARK RESULTS

Run on: perl: v5.24.0, CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) M-5Y71 CPU @ 1.20GHz (2 cores), OS: GNU/Linux LinuxMint version 17.3, OS kernel: Linux version 3.19.0-32-generic.

Benchmark with default options (bencher -m PERLANCAR::method_call_using_variable):

BENCHMARK NOTES

Using variable as method name is an extra indirection which has a cost.
